Kym Hart

Biography

Kym Hart is the second-eldest son of Pro Hart and was educated at the local Broken Hill High School. Opportunities to study under many different teachers (artists), including his internationally famous father Pro Hart have afforded him a unique foundation from which he has developed his individual style and various techniques.

Many of Kym’s outback artworks are narratives. Not only do they depict a particular scene but they draw the viewer in to witness a particular lifestyle. Distinctively naïve, the artist’s style has resulted in his works becoming popular and forming part of a number of private collections within Australia and overseas. Although predominantly working in oils, the range of mediums adopted by Kym include gouache, watercolors, etching, monotypes and block printing make up

He has exhibited throughout most regional areas of Australia and all major cities Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Darwin, Adelaide and Perth with hundreds of successful exhibitions including solo exhibitions at Proud’s Gallery, Sydney, Banco Fine Arts, Qld, Australian Gallery and Adelaide amongst others. Group exhibitions include Barry Stern Gallery, Outback art prize, BMW, The Sydney Gallery, Big Boys, Toys, Merrill Lynch Corporate exhibition Sydney, Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre and at the Gold Coast International.

Kym is regularly commissioned to paint murals and some of these Australian companies include Grey Hound Pioneer (Bus), Kendell Airlines (SAAB 340, 17 million dollar airplane), Broken Hill Airport, Helicopter Mural, Australian Green Poles – Arid Zone Artists and KAR59, Kidney Car Rally. He has featured in documentaries and publications in varied media including Australian Art Auction Records, Better House and Gardens, New Idea, Australian Post, Dogs – Life, Kendall In-flight Magazine, Discovery Magazine, the Troy Dan Show – Discovery Channel, World Around Us and ABC Australian Stories. In 2005 he was selected in the finals of the Cromwell Prize which toured around America and Europe.

Having travelled from the centre of Australia to the tropical north; from the barren Simpson Desert to the southern coastal area as well as internationally - for Kym it is still the outback town of Broken Hill and the surrounding lands of New South Wales which have proven to be the most exciting places for him to work in as an artist. With the combination of its colourful history, vivid colours and vastly different landscapes, it is no wonder he draws inspiration from his beloved Broken Hill.
