Auguste Blackman
Blackman’s work is noted for its boldness, colour and stroke together with a strong sense of playful narrative. Each spontaneous brushstroke is executed with great confidence. Through the form of portraits, still life and sometimes landscapes, Blackman offers the viewer a unique and fresh perspective on the surrounding world – the artist’s world, his imagination and his experiences.
Biography
Auguste Blackman was born in Melbourne in 1957 to his famous artist father, Charles Blackman OBE, and writer mother, Barbara Blackman OA.
Immersed in an artistic life from birth he began carving out his own world of images and creativity at an early age. Beginning with painting and drawing, Blackman simultaneously pursued a career as a curator and printmaker before coming to life as a professional artist.
Formally trained, Blackman also harnesses his natural training inherited from the family culture to create his own genre of figurative expressionism. A painter and printmaker, the artist reinterprets his environment, allowing the viewer to see the world through a different perspective – the artist’s world, his imagination and his experiences.
His work is noted for its boldness, colour and stroke together with a strong sense of playful narrative. Each spontaneous brushstroke is executed with great confidence. Through the form of portraits, still life and sometimes landscapes, Blackman offers the viewer a unique and fresh perspective on the surrounding world.
Blackman has been exhibiting widely across Australia, particularly New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland for over thirty years. His works are held in a number of private collections both nationally and internationally.
